Why Martha isn't as beloved in the Who community is because she is, sadly, just a B-tier companion at best.

She has nothing "Special", the only trait she has is that she loves the doctor, like every other companion.

Martha isn't particularly intelligent, even if she isn't dumb or anything. She isn't very curious, she doesn't grow, she doesn't change.

She is just there to admire the doctor, which is sad. The actress did a great job, but the authors sadly didn't give her much to work with.

So glad to finally be able to see y'all reaction to this set of eps, definitely my favourite ending to any season. Fantastic story with great twists, the reveal like the Boe one was awesome and your guys reactions to it was *perfect*. Martha is definitely my favourite Tennant companion altho idk about overall, definitely up there tho. Torchwood, imo, is great but very different from Who. Cap Jack features a lot in it so definitely worth checking with how much y'all love him but the series isnt from his POV. Cant wait to see the season 4 and beyond reactions!

Ive seen a few reactions to these episodes and often I notice that many people don't really react to the "1 tenth of the population" comment. But I'm glad you lot did- because that is a crazy amount of people.

Thats just shy of a billion people wiped out.

In 2007 when the episode released it would've been 672 Million (Since the world population was roughly 6.72 billion)

Something that just hit me about the 1 year time jump: the Doctor is roughly 900 years old, so a year is about 0.11% of his life. I did the math for me as a dude that just turned 26 and that's about 10-11 days. So to the Doctor he basically just experienced the worst week and a half of his life.

Dude, I never put it together that The Master fired the shot the day his Doctor regenerated. Like when that Torchwood lady told them to fire at the bad guys in the Christmas special. Like one of the darkest moments in history to the Doctor is when humans killed the fleeing aliens and the Master hates him so much he had to fire the shot.

Harriet Jones was the one to tell Torchwood to fire at the Sycorax. Harold Saxon told the army to fire at the Racnoss web

Martha was the hardest working of companions.

During a pretty large chunk of the Third Doctor's run, the show had serious budget issues, so they had the Doctor stranded on Earth (the Time Lords broke the TARDIS as part of a punishment). The Master was introduced as an evil Time Lord so the Doctor could have a recurring nemesis to make up for the lack of traveling through time and to other planets. Throughout the show he kept turning up to be a menace, and regenerated at least twice (I think?).

In other words, when fans of the original show watched Utopia, they freaked the fuck out when he announced himself as the Master.

I've thought this for a while, but I feel you guys react to too many things at once. I would be great if ya'll limited the shows you do so that those shows get done sooner. Cause with how many shows you do, combined with the movies and gaming content it takes ages to sometimes get the shows some of us sign up for.

Hate to say it buddy, but that's by design. Many shows gives them the flexibility they need to record in a 9-5 fashion and still take breaks for family and avoid burnout. In addition, this pacing usually keeps people subbed for a couple months rather than one month. The lads have done an extraordinary job optimizing reacting as a full time job, but unfortunately that means there really isn't much more they can do for pacing on the diamond tier side.

That's crazy I never noticed Lucy was being abused here until now. I genuinely never noticed the black eye which is wild. I think she was emotionally suckered in and love bombed previously and then this happened. It's wild. What a great reaction!

Martha is my favorite companion and it was soul crushing having to live through all the hate first go round. So glad the nitpicks you had about Rose are the same I had. I don't hate Rose, I just don't understand how people could elevate her to sainthood within the ranks of the companions and in the same breath just straight drag Martha for even finding Ten attractive.

Martha was and still is one of the best companions, pouring one out for homegirl, glad she left instead of being forced to not travel anymore. Also Freema was easily one of the best Dr Who actors.

So glad Martha left on her own accord, the Doctor did not deserve her at all for how the way treated her, trapping her in eras where she was incredibly unsafe AND then depending on her to work being at the top of the list. I don't care what anyone else says, Francine (her mom) was absolutely in the right to be so protective of her against him, especially when you look at it from her perspective.

On this rewatch I've been approaching it from a more neutral perspective, trying not to have a bias for the Doctor and viewing him as a good person just because he's the main character and the show is more or less from his perspective. And I'm struck by how much he's like a god just playing with his world. He kind of seems to think of humans like pets. He cares for them, and is strongly attached to some of them, but their lives aren't as important as the "higher beings". His pacifist approach with the Master nearly cost the Universe, and even after all the death and torture that the Master committed, he still prioritized him over humanity.

The Master is one of Who's best reoccurring characters.

It is so rewarding that the four drums have been in the intro this whole time.
