To be so real right now, back in the day when I first saw this, I knew Lightning was cocky and impatient, but the first 15 minutes surprised me. I did not remember him being so full of himself.

Of the three, this is the one I enjoy the least.

It's arguably better than 2, but I enjoy 2 more.

They need to watch the Cars 3 teaser trailer before watching Cars 3 cuz that trailer added so much hype to the last movie.

The joke with the backed-up line of cars going out the women's restroom compared to there being no line for the men's restroom implies that female cars have a uterus in the Cars world (in the human body, the uterus takes up some of the bladder's space, so a woman's bladder holds 30% less than a man's bladder, resulting in women having to go to the bathroom more frequently than men do). So. Eric, congrats, it looks like the cars in this universe may give birth like mammals do.

Conversely, it could mean that there are more female cars than male cars

    2. Stash
      3 months

Adding to the previous comment--no, I definitely don't think anyone on the team behind this movie put that much thought into it, and no, I wouldn't say that the women's restroom line canonically proves the existence of a uterus in female cars, but I do think it's funny that this one-off joke can carry such an implication.

It's not bad per se, just... not exactly a great SEQUEL to a movie like this. I think the general consensus is that the 3rd one is more so the true sequel and the second is just... a movie that exists.

While I do enjoy this movie, I never liked McQueen and I really don't like the romance between him and Sally. The 180-reaction from how he treats her on their first meet to doing a good job of fixing the road makes her first hate then like him? I get that his work made the town want to clean up as well, which is nice, but he was being FORCED to do this. This wasn't a good deed from McQueen out of the kindness of his heart. XD But she was treating it like it was... Which was weird.

Fun fact: 70% of countries drive on the right like the US. The only major countries that drive on the left is UK/Ireland, Australia, Japan, and India.  Aside from those five, it's just southern Africa, Oceania countries, and a couple in south America.

Oh also, John Ratzenberger appeared in *every single* Pixar movie until he retired from Pixar in Onward until he returned to reprise a role in Inside Out 2; it's not been confirmed why he retired, but some people have *guessed* (because he appeared in Luck and Spellbound) it's because sided against with the choice of firing John Lasseter from Pixar for various sexual harassment cases.

Joe Ranft was actually the co-director for Cars, and a writer of various animated films like The Brave Little Toaster, Toy Story, The Rescuers Down Under, etc. He died tragically young at 45 a year before this was released in of a car accident.

I think the best way to think about cars 2 is that it's a great standalone movie and should be treated as such. Think of it like a filler story that happened on the side and the Cars 3 picks up where the last film left off.

  46. korrasrightbicep
    3 months

I remember Cars 2 being AWFUL, but it might be fun if you go in just expecting a really silly chaotic movie with no emotional weight. Cars 3 is pretty decent and definitely more tonally and quality-wise on par with Cars 1. Universally, people tend to hate cars 2 and it is considered to be the worst Pixar movie (aside from the good dinosaur) But it’s been a while since I’ve seen it, and that may be because people were comparing it to the caliber of other Pixar movies. If you go in with different expectations, you might have fun with it!

    1. SauceyRed

I can understand people not liking it, it's pretty much a self-contained "filler" story, but to me it's a really fun ride, and it feels harsh to call it one of the worst Pixar movies.

There's an deleted scene about they transferred Lightning's motor engine into a paving truck and he was the paving truck, I don't remember if that scene was a nightmare, but apparently showed that if they change their engine to another car, they would be on a different body, like their engine is their soul or something like that, you can see deleted scenes and alternative endings from Disney movies on the extra section on Disney Plus

Not just on America drive on the right side, in Center America and South America does too, well, I saw on Mexico there's both, one moment your place to drive is right and then it changes to left, I grew up on Venezuela and it's always on the right side there, I think it's the same on Argentina

I know people are telling you not to watch Cars 2 and that’s entirely your choice but here’s a sentence that I think will make you want to watch it: that terrorism joke Boom made about destroying the interstate isn’t far off from the actual plot of that movie. See?! Now you have to watch it to figure out what that means!

  58. Aaron

I want a remake of the game, but I want a meter for tire damage and gas usage. Make the pits a significant strategy. Don't get ne wrong, the original was fun for what it is, but could be better.

  59. Residentfan 1

Boom, I know you were making a joke about this being post apocalyptic and these are AI cars but what if I told you there was a theory that every Pixar film is connected and that Syndrome’s AI robot from Incredibles was collected by a mega corporation called BnL, used to create AI cars(as well as the AI pilot in Wall-E), these cars went to war with the humans, won the war and the humans were forced to go to space(as seen in Wall-E).

  60. Kory

To put it simply cars 1 good real classic, Cars 2 don’t waste your time worst one of all no plot no development and to much mater, cars 3 is good it’s better to go to 3 and just call it an end to the trilogy that’s how they should’ve ended it.

Jon Ranft was an animator for Pixar up until cars, he was tragically killed in a car accident after production on cars wrapped. I would also like to add, Doc Hudson isn't in the second or third movie, Paul Newman passed away due to cancer not long after cars released, I'm telling ya'll this because it's important and it's glossed over in the 2nd film. And yes, George Carlin played Filmore the hippie van
