Not so much to advocate the school propaganda but rather the context of the story, the issue isn't so much Anne knowing what she wants because Ruff is right, even adults cannot tell you what they want to do in life, but rather that she doesn't seem to even think about it. That discussion with the principal implies that despite Sasha being the one with obsessive control issues, Anne allows it because it's easier to just go with the flow than being her own person.

Sasha and Marcy are also kids, but they already have some understanding of their interests and individual skills. Their personalities and perks already show you the kind of potential they have, meanwhile Anne is actively mediocre and lacks any personal identity. In the principal's eyes, she's not Anne, she's Sasha and Marcy's friend, who does what others tell her, and seems fine with just being that.
